Sorry - I won't be moving on to the next book in the series.Red alert! A Court of Mist and Fury is the second book in the Court of Thorns and Roses series.

The romance was somewhat implausible - what did they really see in each other beyond lust (Feyre) and Tamlin's political motivation? Lots of gore, cruel characters, sexual harassment, etc. This plot device is pretty much what kept the story going. There were multiple times when she totally ignored the advice of others and got herself in trouble, only to have to be rescued by someone else. Feyre was a mix of clever/courageous and just plain stupid. So, the reader spends plenty of time thinking the whole thing is ridiculous, allowing the negative impression to build. Other reviewers have mentioned things that didn't make sense or weren't explained, and as I was reading, I found those things, but for the most part, all was explained in the end. I spent a lot of time skimming lengthy descriptions of the landscape. I spent a lot of time mentally rolling my eyes, especially every time I had to read about Tamlin's musculature rippling under his clothing. There were so many elements of this story that were unrealistic and/or contrived, even for fantasy. The human world in ACoTaR is as close to reality as it gets but Feyre's family didn't really have me appreciating it.

I love a good fantasy read with strong world building, but I seem to need something that has grounds in reality. Many have described it as a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I am not sure who all these adoring readers are, but I must not be the author's intended audience. This was a frustrating read, and I think the only reason I kept with it was because of the multitude of glowing reviews.
